Adoption Programs

Bengal Cat

At Bengal Rescue, we offer two programs for our rescue Bengals:

  • Owner Rehoming
  • Rescue Program

Owner Rehoming

In our Owner Rehoming program, the owner keeps the cat in their home until we can find a suitable match for the cat.

Intake. We begin by doing an extensive “intake” process, where we work closely with the owner to learn about the cat’s overall needs and any potential challenges that we can learn about. We do a video call with the owner to meet the cat, or we meet in person if we have someone local on our team who is able to do the in-person meet and greet.

Veterinarian Records. We request the owner to have their Veterinarian email us their cat’s full medical history, and we review the information in detail. Once we’ve received all intake information, the owner signs a surrender agreement, transferring their cat legally to Bengal Rescue.

Posting Bios. Our next step, once we’ve learned more about the cat in need of rehoming, is to build a detailed Biography on the cat, explaining the cat’s likes, dislikes and quirks (they ALL have quirks, just like people do!). We go into great detail about everything we know about this cat, weather it is re: their medical care or things to watch out for (i.e. “This cat is a DOOR-DARTER!!!”). It usually takes us between 6-8 hours to write the profile, edit images, watermark images, and then post them on our Website, Facebook, Instagram, Rescue Me and Petfinder pages.

Interviewing Candidates. We spend many hours interviewing potential candidates, and share that info with the original owner in the quest to find a great (mutual) placement.

Administration of Contracts. Once the perfect family has been identified, we administer the completion of the Adoption paperwork, making the adoption official.

Medical Process. With our Owner Rehoming program, we cannot *force* an owner to do much in the way of further vetting (they have possession of the cat so…). By the time they reach out to us – they are usually moments away from taking their cat to a shelter.

Rescue Program

With our Rescue Program, we either receive a cat directly from an owner or a shelter, and we immediately place the cat in a Foster home and get them started on vetting.

Usually our Vetting runs anywhere from $500.00 – $3,000.00 and our adoption fees for these cats are much higher due to our expenses.

The typical cost of Veterinary care for each of the cats we rescue, are as follows:

  • Veterinary Examination:  $75.00 – $130.00
  • Vaccinations: $75.00-$97.00
  • Spay / Neuter: $600.00 + (unless the cat is near a low-cost clinic we can get into – many cats are intact and we have to spay / neuter – NOW – not in 3 weeks or longer!)
  • De-flea / Deworm: $50.00-$75.00
  • Microchip: $93.00 – $97.00
  • FeLV / FIV Test: $70.00 – $97.00
  • Full CBC Panel (not always required): $250.00
  • Parasite Screen (not always required): $147.00

Once all of the necessary Veterinary care has been completed, and after the cat has received behavioral assessment, that is when we are ready to proceed with adoption.

Next steps include:

Posting Bios. Once we’ve learned more about the cat in need of rehoming, we build a detailed Biography on the cat, explaining the cat’s likes, dislikes and quirks (they ALL have quirks, just like people do!).

We spend many hours interviewing potential candidates, and share that info with our Foster in the quest to find a great (mutual) placement.

In Person Meeting. Once our candidate has been fully interviewed / vetted, we arrange for an in-person meet and greet. If the candidate is ready to adopt (usually they are) we go to the next step.

Administration of Contracts. Once the perfect family has been identified, we administer the completion of the Adoption paperwork, making the adoption official. At this point all of the records are provided to the adopter, including transfer of microchip (sometimes the cats haven’t been microchipped but we always disclose this / discuss with the adopter).
